Modified PS Plastics
Modified PS plastics are materials with enhanced or customized performances, obtained by introducing other components or structures into general‑purpose polystyrene (GPPS) through physical or chemical approaches. Its core value lies in offsetting inherent drawbacks of neat PS such as brittleness, poor heat resistance and high flammability.
Main Applications
Home‑Appliance Industry ‑ Housings & inner liners: Widely used for casings of TVs, air‑conditioners, washing machines, vacuum cleaners and air purifiers. Extrusion‑grade grades serve as standard materials for inner liners and door liners of refrigerators and freezers. ‑ Internal components: Applied for fan blades, turbines and partial structural parts.
Electronics & Office Equipment ‑ Equipment housings: Manufacture housings and bases for printers, copiers, fax machines and monitors. ‑ Flame‑retardant components: Flame‑retardant modified PS (flame‑retardant HIPS) is extensively adopted in fire‑safety‑critical scenarios, including TV back covers, charger housings, junction boxes and power‑adapter shells.
Packaging & Disposable Articles ‑ Food packaging: Food‑grade HIPS and GPPS are extruded into sheets and thermoformed into disposable food containers, yogurt cups, fruit trays, fresh‑food trays and various food vessels. ‑ Dairy packaging: Special low‑residual HIPS grades (e.g. for Yakult‑style bottles) guarantee strict food‑safety requirements. ‑ Daily‑use goods: Produce disposable cups, plates, cutlery, stationery and toys.
Construction & Lighting ‑ Lighting fixtures: Light‑diffusion modified PS featuring high light transmittance and haze is widely used for LED lamp shades, diffuser panels and grille lamp sheets. ‑ Building materials: Low‑foam HIPS with wood‑like appearance is applied for decorative moldings, photo frames and partial furniture parts. Flame‑retardant PS is also used for building thermal‑insulation materials and ventilation duct components.
Industrial & Other Fields ‑ Industrial parts: Glass‑fiber‑reinforced PS is used for high‑rigidity industrial components such as fans and instrument housings. ‑ 3D‑printing: HIPS is a common 3D‑printing filament, acting both as dissolvable support material and directly‑printed functional parts. ‑ Special applications: Conductive / antistatic PS is used for trays and turnover boxes of electronic components to avoid static‑electric damage. Weather‑resistant PS is adopted for outdoor billboards and automotive interior trims.
